- {LAN Magazine Product of the Year for Entry-Level Network Operating
- {Systems}
-
- At the first of the year, LAN Magazine selected LANtastic as its Product of
- the Year in Entry-Level Network Operating Systems. While praising the
- creativity of Artisoft's "tiny RAM" advertising, most of the inkwas devoted
- to plaudits for the product. "No one in the entry-level network arena has
- a better product than LANtastic, Artisoft's speedy, low-cost, peer-to-peer
- network operating system," the editors said. "Users love LANtastic for a
- variety of reasons, in particular for its 'tiny' RAM requirements: 13KB at the
- PC and 40KB on the server--the lowest of any LAN NOS on the market.
- "Users also appreciate LANtastic's price-performance ratio. For $725, they
- get a fully functional two-node 10 Mbps Ethernet network. Those willing
- to accept 2 Mbps performance can run LANtastic on two PCs for $525."
- Since the LAN Magazine citation, LANtastic prices are even lower. Now
- a two-node 10 Mbps Ethernet network is available for just $699; the 2
- Mbps system is now available for $499.

- 1991 Readers' Choice Award from LAN Times: LANtastic Network
- Operating System
-
- As proud as Artisoft is of all the praise editors lavish on our products,
- there remains a special pride when the pat on the back comes from the
- real experts--the people who buy and use network products. In its March
- 8 issue, LAN Times named Artisoft's LANtastic Network Operating System
- the Readers' Choice in peer-to-peer operating systems. In its citation, LAN
- Times said "LANtastic from Artisoft has won kudos as an affordable, easily
- expandable operating system. LANtastic can support up to 300
- workstations and servers, does not require a dedicated server." The report
- praised the software for including "print service and spooling; E-mail; and
- some security features, such as password protection for network manager
- programs, user name and password protection for users, an access
- control list for shared resources, and user auditing."
